We’re crossing the river today to bring you the latest dining news from DC. On Tuesday, Nov. 18, the Michelin Guide released its 2025 Northeast Cities edition, and Eater shared its list of the 15 best new restaurants in America.
Starting with Michelin restaurants in DC, two Bib Gourmands were added. What does this mean? These are restaurants recognized by the Michelin Guide for the quality of the food, but at a more reasonable price than a typical Michelin restaurant.
The first restaurant added to this list is PhoXotic in DC’s Bloomingdale neighborhood. As the name suggests, you can expect delicious, steaming bowls of pho. You can even DIY your own bowl.
The other restaurant newly added to DC’s Bib Gourmand list is Your Only Friend in the Shaw neighborhood. This inventive “sandwich bar,” which is part cocktail bar and part sandwich shop, serves standout creations like “Call Me Maybe,” a roasted cauliflower sandwich with vegan mayo and pickled vegetables on a soft roll. Guests can also choose from a selection of sides, desserts, and, naturally, a full menu of cocktails.
The Michelin Guide also named the 2025 Northeast Cities Mentor Chef Award Winner — and it’s a DC chef. José Andrés of minibar is this year’s winner. The restaurant is already a two-star Michelin restaurant serving avant-garde dishes.
The Eater piece ranked its top 15 new restaurants in America, and fortunately, you don’t have to travel far to try one. Tapori in DC is the closest option for Northern Virginia — and I’m more than willing to make the trip. Specializing in Indian and Nepalese street food, this spot already has my mouth watering. Just look at the cuisine.
Virginia is home to just one Michelin-starred restaurant: The Inn at Little Washington. The state has opted not to cover the fees required by the Michelin Guide, which is why there are no additional starred locations.
Which Virginia restaurants would you give Michelin Star status? Let us know.
