Who said workouts can’t be fun? If you’re sick of regular workout classes or tired of your normal run route, consider these six ways to get a sweat on in Northern Virginia while also having a good time.

Aqua Fitness Classes

Fan of the pool, but getting bored swimming laps? Many of the recreation departments around Northern Virginia offer aquatic fitness classes. Make sure to check out Arlington’s, Alexandria’s, and Fairfax’s classes.

I’m intrigued by the S’WET Deep class at the Franconia Rec Center, which emphasizes suspended work in the deep end of the pool to reduce impact.

Rock Climbing + Bouldering

Ditch the weights and head to these local climbing gyms to build up your strength. Movement in Arlington offers 217 climbing routes for you to try out. Another option in NOVA is Vertical Rock Climbing & Fitness Center in Manassas.

Trampoline Parks

Embrace your inner child and head to a trampoline park to get your cardio in. The Sky Zone in Manassas is a popular trampoline park chain. Along with trampolines, there are foam pits, jousting, and other fun movement opportunities.

Altitude in Leesburg is another option for NOVA folks to take advantage of. They offer similar amenities to Sky Zone, making it an ideal spot for fun fitness.

Boxing

One of my 2026 goals is to try a boxing class. Various gyms around NOVA offer said classes, and a couple to check out are Rumble Boxing in Arlington and BASH Boxing in various NOVA cities, including Fairfax’s Mosaic District.

HIIT

Also known as high-intensity interval training, these are great workouts to try when you’re in a pinch. Sweat Box in Arlington’s Ballston neighborhood or Reston Station in Reston incorporates both cardio and weightlifting.

Circus

We saved what we think is best for last. Monarca In Flight is based in Falls Church and offers all the circus basics. Classes include activities like trapeze and aerial, and are available for both children and adults.
