Breaking news in the development world doesn’t always translate to a quick groundbreaking. So, we’re reminding you of three major projects that have been ongoing in Alexandria as they continue through the construction phase.

The Whitley, Old Town

Local real estate agency McWilliams|Ballard is bringing a new kind of living to this neighborhood. The 78-unit condominium features one- to three-bedroom condos + offers a feel of premier living with its green rooftop, underground parking, and proximity to the waterfront and local businesses.

Projected to open by the fall, residents can now inquire about floorplans.

TideLock, North Old Town

This large-scale development comes in at $175 million and gives a whole new meaning to living at the office. In 2021, TideLock Property Owner, LLC proposed to turn three office buildings on North Fairfax Street into a mixed-use community.

Think: 234 residential units (split between an apartment and condominium), 6,599 sqft of retail space + 5,000 sqft reserved to enhance the arts and culture of the neighborhood.

The project is on track to be completed by spring 2026. Oh, and did we mention it’s all designed to be LEED Silver certified?

WestEnd, Landmark

A $2 billion mixed-use redevelopment of the former Landmark Mall site gained official approval in 2022. Notably, this new neighborhood will feature residential, retail, and commercial spaces + green spaces like a ~two-acre Central Park and a (now open) transit hub.

The site is in phase one, with the first few buildings projected to open this year.

The other major project within this revitalization plan is the Inova Alexandria Hospital at Landmark. Construction on the main hospital building is projected to run through 2028.

Pro tip: If you’re traveling eastbound toward Duke Street now through Aug. 1, prepare for these road closures.
