Cookology in Arlington’s Ballston neighborhood offers a variety of cooking and baking classes. I’m tempted to sign up for the Meatless Monday: Asian Flavors class on Monday, Jan. 26.

Dance

AVA Dance Company in Arlington and Falls Church teaches different styles of dance, including pom, hip hop, contemporary, and street jazz. Plus, it has a great name.

Ballet more your jam? Virginia Ballet Company and School in Fairfax offers a variety of packages, from a one-class drop-in to an unlimited 30-day pass. And don’t let the name fool you; they don’t just offer ballet classes.

The “Cherry Challenge,” a culinary competition from Sunday, Jan. 25 to Sunday, Feb. 8, will pit Alexandria restaurants against one another as they create cherry-based appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts. See which local restaurants are participating. (ALXnow)

We’re crossing into Maryland for this news. National Harbor announced plans for a new, smaller-scale Sphere venue like the one in Las Vegas. The project will create about 4,750 jobs once operational and generate a projected $1 billion a year. There’s currently no word on a timeline for this project.
