Are you hoping to pick up or perfect a new skill this new year? Try out one of these adult classes around Northern Virginia.

Art

The Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington offers a plethora of adult-specific art classes from ceramics to stitching.

The Art League in the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria offers classes for all ages, including courses exclusively for adults. They offer a basic nine-session drawing course for $250. This is just one of many art forms you can choose from.

If pottery’s your niche, you should check out Teal Nest Pottery’s classes. There are even Couple Wheel Workshops you can attend with your special someone.

Cooking

Cookology in Arlington’s Ballston neighborhood offers a variety of cooking and baking classes. I’m tempted to sign up for the Meatless Monday: Asian Flavors class on Monday, Jan. 26.

Ballet more your jam? Virginia Ballet Company and School in Fairfax offers a variety of packages, from a one-class drop-in to an unlimited 30-day pass. And don’t let the name fool you; they don’t just offer ballet classes.

The Dance Academy of Virginia offers classes at both its Del Ray and McLean locations. You can choose from a drop-in, four-class pass, eight-class pass, or 10-class pass.
