Get ready to rock out. Port City Brewing is turning its loading dock into a concert venue from May 16 through Sept. 19. These events will run on the third Friday of each month from 6-9 p.m., and they are free and open to the public.

The Arbor Row Senior Center is now open in Tysons, offering adults 50+ opportunities to stay active, learn new skills, and connect with others. This center is on the first floor of The Mather, an apartment complex for seniors. (FFXnow)

Plans for a new French bakery in Old Town Alexandria are being presented to the Board of Architectural Review today. Originally started in Arlington, Eclarions Pastry and Coffee House hopes to open at 430 S. Washington Street — the site of the old Firehook Bakery. (ALXnow)
Plan Ahead
The McLean Day festival will be May 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lewinsville Park. Enjoy food trucks, balloon animals, and more. New this year — try out the beer and wine garden. (FFXnow)
Try This
After a successful pilot program, Alexandria’s composting program launches July 1. For those who get trash and recycling pickup, you can add on this voluntary service for $5 monthly or $55 yearly. The city will be covering 75% of the cost. (ALXnow)
Community
The Arlington County Police Department now plans to host community meetings every month. These meetings will cover “community issues, crime prevention tips, and addressing quality of life concerns,” according to the ACPD press release. The first meeting will be May 15 from 6:30-8 p.m. (ARLnow)
Development
A Clarendon office building is one step closer to becoming an apartment complex. Carr Properties is looking to tear down the 40-year-old building at 3033 Wilson Blvd, and these plans have reached the Arlington County Board. (ARLnow)
Coming Soon
Scolapasta originally planned to open at 4219 Fairfax Drive this summer, but will now open as a kiosk at Ballston Quarter. Owner Burak Temel is said to have signed the lease earlier this week, and Scolapasta is projected to open in the next 90 days. (ARLnow)
Transit
The Theodore Roosevelt Bridge upgrades began April 21 and will continue for about the next three years + eight months. This means lane reductions, road closures, increased traffic on I-66, and reduced pedestrian + bike access. Stay tuned for specific closures and updates.
Biz
Wonder, a New York-based food hall, plans to open in Reston, Franconia, and Rosslyn. It features dishes from restaurants nationwide for dine-in and takeout. Exact addresses aren’t confirmed, but FFXnow and ARLnow report where Wonder is exploring locations.
Rick Schena of Alexandria has become the first Parkinson’s patient in the DC area to have a neurostimulator implanted in his brain. This device helps reduce the amount of oral medication a patient with Parkinson’s needs to take. (WTOP)
Travel
The Army has paused its helicopter flights near the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. It is unknown how long this pause will be, but helicopter flights are continuing in the greater DC area. (AP)
