This Sunday is the inaugural Alexandria Half Marathon. Feeling inspired? Check out these walking and running clubs around NOVA.

Arlington

I Run, You Run — All skill levels are welcome in this club where your run is measured by time, not distance. Course locations vary, and the group meets on Monday + Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Alexandria

Joggers + Lagers — Start with a 1-, 3-, or 5-mile run from Port City Brewing Company on Monday evenings, then stick around for a pint afterwards.

Fairfax

Fairfax Area Runners — Meet this group on Tuesday + Thursday evenings by the Fairfax ACE Hardware to run or walk with the group. Runners can expect 3- to 5-mile courses while walks are usually ~2 miles.

DC

DC Front Runners — Explore DC with this LGBTQ+ group that has a calendar packed with runs and walks on different days and in different locations.

News Notes

Traffic

Construction to widen Fairfax County Parkway has begun. Starting April 27, overnight single lane closures will occur northbound and southbound until May 30.

Coming Soon

This one is for the Ford fanatics. The franchise Ford’s Garage has signed a three-store deal, with the potential for even more to open. The restaurants will be in Alexandria, Fairfax, and Woodbridge, but exactly where has yet to be announced. (The Burn)

Development

Alexandrians, do you have thoughts on upgrades to John Ewald Park? The city is seeking public opinion until May 21. You can also attend the community meeting and open house on Thursday, April 24 to explore design concepts, view display boards, and give feedback in person.

Shop

Arlington is home to NOVA’s newest farmers market. The Green Valley Farmers Market opened April 4 and is open every Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. until Nov. 7. Want to get involved? Become a member for exclusive discounts or volunteer to support this local event.

Arts

This weekend, Clarendon will host the Arlington Festival of the Arts for the 11th year. Enjoy music performances + food, and check out local art while meeting the artists. (ARLNow)

Health

Ambulance fees in Arlington are set to rise starting in July, with base rates increasing to $1,000–$1,500, plus $18 per mile. The new pricing, up from the current $750–$1,000 and $15 per mile, is expected to remain in effect for the next three to five years. (ARLNow)

How does a new kayaking spot, shaded waterfront pavilion, and open community space on the shores of the Potomac sound to you? The Board of Architectural Review is set to review plans for Point Lumley Park on Wednesday, May 7. (ALXnow)
