Six Northern Virginia developments coming in 2026

The following projects are scheduled to either begin construction or reach completion later this year. From the Commanders Stadium to road construction, there are many Northern Virginia developments coming this year.

Dulles International Airport

Welcome to the Dulles International Airport, Concourse E. The new development is expected to open in late 2026. This is part of the Dulles Next development, aimed at increasing both domestic and international flights.

The 9/11 Pentagon Memorial Visitor Education Center

Construction will begin this year on an education center dedicated to telling the untold story of 9/11. The project is expected to break ground on Sept. 10.

2011 Crystal Dr.

In the first half of 2026, JBG Smith is revamping the 11-story building at 2011 Crystal Drive in Arlington. The project includes an updated exterior, a refreshed lobby, improved outdoor spaces, and a large meeting and conference center. Plus, expect to find new dining options, such as an all-day cafe and a wine/listening bar concept.

The Commanders Stadium

We’ve been hearing nonstop about the new Washington Commanders stadium coming to DC. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, and the stadium is planned to open for the 2030 season. The development includes the 65,000-seat stadium and a housing and retail complex.

Franconia Governmental Center and Kingstowne Regional Library Project

This new 90,000 sqft facility will include the Franconia Police Station, the Franconia District Supervisor’s Office, and the Franconia Museum. There will also be the Active Adult Center and a new Childcare Center. Kingstowne Community Library will also be expanded to a regional library.

495 Next

Also known as the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension Project, 495 Next is expected to be completed by mid-2026. The project began in March 2022, and it aims to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance safety, expand travel options, and improve overall reliability for all road users.
