The State Fair of Virginia will take place from Friday, Sept. 26, to Sunday, Oct. 5. The fairgrounds are located in Doswell, which is about a 1.5-hour drive from downtown Arlington. Here’s your guide to the fair, along with some of my top picks — and a few favorites from RICtoday’s newsletter editor, Elise Steele.

Parking Free parking is available at Meadow Event Park, located at 13048 Meadow Farm Rd.
Prefer closer access? Premium parking for $22.50 is also offered at 13191 Dawn Blvd, also within Meadow Event Park.
Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. is officially in its soft-opening stage. Located at 46519 Leesburg Pike in Sterling, this is the business’s second location, with another one located in Vienna. A grand opening celebration will likely take place in October. (The Burn)

A new farmers market is coming to town. The King Street Station Farmers Market will take place every Thursday from Sept. 25 to Oct. 30, between 3 and 7 p.m., located between the King Street and Old Town Metro stations. It’s also looking for vendors — apply here. (ALXnow)
Environment
The conversation about Alexandria’s pump station continues. The Alexandria Waterfront Alliance has proposed a new site for the station from its original planned site at Waterfront Park to a vacant building at 1 Prince Street. The new location would add an estimated $25-$45 million in costs and delay the project by two to four years. (ALXnow)
Sports
It’s official. The Washington, DC City Council has approved the plan for the Washington Commanders to return to RFK Stadium. The measure passed with an 11-2 vote and now heads to Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Development
A new pop-up park, known as NOW Park, is open in the Rosslyn Business Improvement District. This site includes urban gardens, terraced event space, and a pet relief area. Take a look at the new park. (ARLnow)

A virtual pre-construction meeting for the new Fort Ward Playground in Alexandria will be held on Monday, Sept. 29. The meeting will cover details about the upcoming construction, which is scheduled to begin this fall and be completed by next summer. (ALXnow)
Coming Soon
A new donut destination is coming to Vienna in 2026. Shipley Do-Nuts, a Southern-based chain, is set to open at 256 Maple Ave. E. This location was originally slated for another donut chain, Duck Donuts, but plans have since changed. (FFXnow)
