Walk, run, or bike along the Mount Vernon Trail. | Photo via NOVAtoday
Picture this: You’re on the Mount Vernon Trail. The air is finally free of its usual heaviness — no humidity, just a hint of coolness that feels like a quiet promise of fall. The sun is out, and as you look toward the Potomac River, it catches the light, sparkling like scattered diamonds across the water.
This was my experience the other day.
If you’re new to the area or just looking for a great place to enjoy the outdoors, I highly recommend taking a walk or hopping on a bike as you follow the Potomac River on this trail.
Did you know? The Mount Vernon Trail was established in 1972 thanks to the efforts of Ellen Pickering and Barbara Lynch, who launched a petition and collaborated with volunteers and the National Park Service to bring it to life.
