A new era for the Washington Commanders
The original RFK Stadium was built in 1961, but it’s about to get a makeover. | Photo from Pexels
Big news for Commanders fans — a deal has been reached between the team and Washington, DC, to build a new stadium where the RFK Stadium is located. The team played at RFK Stadium from 1961 to 1996 before moving to their current home, Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.
Here’s what you should know, by the numbers:
180 — The number of acres the new stadium site will be. Located right on Kingman Lake, this has been a desired spot for the Commanders for quite some time.
65,000 — The number of seats that will be in the new stadium.
5 — The number of Super Bowls the Commanders played in during their time at RFK Stadium, winning three championships in that era.

The Kentucky Derby is this weekend, and NOVA has plenty of events for the occasion. I’m most drawn to Virginia’s Gold Cup Races — our very own horse races in VA.
