I’m pretty sure this neighborhood is the dog capital of Virginia. All the doggos roaming around the Del Ray neighborhood are just one of the many things that make it so special. Here’s what else I noticed.
I rode the Blue Line to Braddock Road and walked along the Potomac Yard Trail to the coffee shop where I planned to start my day. This path is perfect for a morning stroll, runners, and cyclists.
My coffee shop of choice was Swing’s Coffee Roasters, where I grabbed an oat milk cappuccino. This cafe is ideal for hanging out with a friend, getting some work done, or reading a book. A perk? A dog park is right across the street, perfect for pup watching.
From there, I headed to the main drag — Mount Vernon Avenue — to explore some shops. For groceries, Del Ray Farmhouse Market & Garden is the pit stop for you, offering plenty of local treats, fresh produce, and unique gift items.
Looking to do some vintage and antique shopping? Stardust Vintage & Gift and La Brocante are right next to each other, both selling clothing, dishware, records, and other vintage items. And a little further down the road is a used book store called The Company of Books.
As for grub, there are plenty of options for you to choose from, including Pork Barrel BBQ, La’Baik, Del Ray Pizzeria & Draft House, Pak Soii Izakaya & Bar, and Bagel Uprising.
Want to grab a drink? Stop by The Garden, a popular beer garden in Alexandria. Even in the colder months, the outdoor heaters keep things cozy. If you’re in the mood for breakfast or a cocktail, Matt & Tony’s All Day Kitchen + Bar is right next door — perfect to start your day or keep the night going.
