We’ve never met a pothole we liked. The good news is, you can help NOVA municipalities get rid of them. Fun fact: Here’s how they form.

What to do in Fairfax County

The Fairfax County webpage asks that you direct most of your pothole reports to VDOT. You can also call 1-800-367-7623 to report them, or to ask who you should contact.

Some exceptions include the Dulles Toll Road, which you should report to the Washington Metropolitan Airport Authority, and the George Washington Memorial Parkway, for which you should contact the National Park Service.

What to do in Arlington County

Before you report potholes, make sure to check the Pavement Condition Index (PCI). It’s a service that plans out the annual funding and paving schedule in Arlington County, so you have access to a timeline.

You can also report potholes in the Arlington area using this form.

What to do in Alexandria

Repaving is currently underway with the Capital Street Resurfacing Program, which runs through June 30, 2026. You can see what’s been completed, in progress, and not yet started here.

Alex311 is a service that allows locals to report issues, just like those pesky potholes. You can find the pothole request form under the “Alleys, Sidewalks, and Streets” category.
