Buckle up — your Metro ride is about to get a little bumpy. The Metro is getting a bit of a makeover, and some closures might impact your commute + travels. The overall goal is to improve the tracks and signaling, meaning better rides for all. There will be two phases to this construction: Here’s what you need to know.
Phase one
The first phase is expected to last from Saturday, July 5 to Saturday, July 26. During this time, the Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn St. locations will be closed. Those who plan to use the Metro to get to Reagan National Airport during this time, don’t worry, the Blue Line will end at this station.
Free alternative options
- Every 8-10 minutes, a local shuttle will run between Franconia-Springfield to Van Dorn St. to Eisenhower Ave. to King St-Old Town.
- Every 8-10 minutes, an express option will run between Franconia-Springfield and the Pentagon.
The Potomac Yard, Braddock Road, and King St-Old Town stations will only be open on the Yellow Line.
Note: During the weekends of July 12-13 + July 19-20, the Yellow Line from Huntington to Braddock Road will only run on one side as the other side gets updates and replacements.
Phase two
The second phase will take place between Saturday, Aug. 22 to Sunday, Aug. 31. During this period, Green Line’s Branch Ave, Suitland, and Naylor Road stations in DC will be closed.
Free alternative options
- Every 8-10 minutes, there will be a local shuttle from Branch Ave. to Suitland to Naylor Road to Southern Ave.
- Every 8-10 minutes, there will also be an express shuttle option from Branch Ave. and Southern Ave.
Note: During the weekends of Aug. 9-10 + Aug. 16-17, the construction will extend to Anacostia, meaning that Congress Heights, Southern Ave., Naylor Road, Suitland, and Branch Ave. stations will close. An additional express shuttle from Anacostia and Branch Ave. will be added.
After all work is expected to conclude at the end of August, all Metro operations and stations will resume as normal. Safe travels, NOVA.
