Hi, NOVA. Ava here, your newsletter editor, back with another neighborhood guide. This month, we’re circling back to Arlington and checking out the Ballston neighborhood.
As always, let’s start with a good cup of coffee.
I recommend checking out the Ballstonian. Owner Isa Seyran is serving up tasty Turkish coffee + teas, sure to keep you warm on your stroll around town.
As far as food goes, I opted for Grazie Grazie. This is the business’ only location in NOVA, with its other two in DC. I got the 8+1, made with salami, capicola, prosciutto, provolone, and red wine vinegar.
My friend went with the NYC Bodega, which comes with breaded chicken, romaine, and Caesar dressing. They also offer other sandwiches like cheesesteaks, along with items like pizza and salads. The sandwiches are massive so come hungry, or prepare for leftovers.
On the hunt for an an activity in Ballston? Visit the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington, where you’ll find ever-changing exhibits and unique events — from gallery yoga sessions in the galleries to rotating art exhibits.
Whenever I’m out and about, I can’t resist hunting for a sweet treat. One spot that never disappoints is Good Company Doughnuts & Cafe, where you’ll find a mix of classic cafe favorites alongside doughnuts.
Some flavors are permanent fixtures on the menu, while others rotate seasonally. For the fall, I highly recommend trying the apple cider doughnut.
Fun fact: Did you know that the Washington Capitals practice at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex, located in Ballston? All practices are open to the public, so if you have an aspiring hockey star on your hands, take them to watch one of their many practices. Here’s the schedule.
